Frequently asked questions motorised curtains

WHY ARE THERE DIFFERENT SHUTTLE MOTORS?

We have different curtain motors according to your wishes. Choose which Forest Shuttle motor best suits your application and integration needs:

  • Shuttle S (housing is smaller than the Shuttle® L because the adapter is placed external)

  • Shuttle M (for heavier fabrics, adapter is places external)

  • Shuttle L (most chosen motor, has an integrated power adaptor and only needs a mains cable)

  • Shuttle iOn (wireless, battery powered version)

  • Shuttle AC (this curtain motor is primarily a solution for 230 Volt hard-wired building management systems)

WHICH FOREST MOTORISED TRACKS ARE APPLICABLE TO THE SHUTTLE MOTOR?

The Shuttle can be used in combination with various motorised track systems like Forest Motorised Track System (FMS), Forest Motorised Plus System, Motorised Design System (DS-XL LED) and Motorised Rod System (MRS).

TO WHAT LENGTH/WEIGHT CAN A SHUTTLE/FMS SYSTEM BE MADE?

When using a FMS track it is possible up to 7 meters in one length. If two tracks are connected, up to 14 meters is possible. Maximum curtain weight is about 70 kg.

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON THE SYSTEM?

The motorised system comes with a 10-year warranty.

CAN THE CURTAIN STACK WIDTH BE CUSTOMISED?

Yes, the motor has a programming button where the open position can be set, which also applies to the speed of opening and closing the curtain.

IS THE SYSTEM EASY TO INSTALL?

Yes, it is a plug 'n' play system. So plug in the socket and the system works. After a power failure, the system will always run to its closed position, so that it knows its position on the track. The system also has a slow start and slow stop (the curtain opens and closes subtly).

CAN THE SYSTEM BE OPERATED IN CASE OF A POWER OUT?

Yes, the system can always be operated manually, so the curtains can also be opened or closed without power.

WHAT DOES THE TOUCH CONTROL INCLUDE?

With a simple tug on the curtain, it opens or closes. The system therefore kicks in when it is pulled. This also makes it impossible to tear it apart. For the spanlife of the curtains it is of course better to use the controls, rather than manually. This feature is not on the Shuttle AC.

CAN THE SYSTEM BE CONNECTED TO DOMOTICS?

Yes, it is possible to connect the system to Domotica/home control. The installer must install a constant power supply (230V) and 3 voltage-free control wires (open-common-close) for this. Connection diagram is also available on the Forest website: download connection diagram.

CAN THE SYSTEM ALSO BE REMOTELY CONTROLLED WITH A SMARTPHONE OR TABLET?

Yes that is possible. You have many different options for this.

  • WiFi dongle

  • Wireless Connector

  • Via a gateway or Smart home systems such as Homey and Fibaro.


WiFi dongle
With the Shuttle® Wi-Fi dongle you can control your motorized curtains with your smartphone or tablet via the Forest Connect app or even via voice control via Google Home, Amazon Echo or Apple Siri without the need for an additional hub or gateway. The WiFi Dongle is not suitable for the battery motor (iOn)

Wireless Connector
The Forest Wireless Connector is a simple way to make the motorized curtains 'smart'. This wireless solution works in combination with an analog timer or a smart plug. With the Forest Smart Plug you can control the curtains by the Forest Connect App. If you want to control via apps such as Apple Homekit or Google Assistant then you will need a Homekit or Google compatible Smart Plug. It can also be easily integrated into the most common home automation systems, including dry contact systems.

Gateway / Smart home system
The Forest motor can also 'talk' wirelessly with the systems of, for example, Fibaro en Homey.

In addition to operation with a telephone/tablet, it is also possible with a gateway to open and close the curtains based on sunrise and sunset. Ideal for living rooms!

IS IT POSSIBLE TO AUTOMATICALLY OPEN AND CLOSE THE CURTAINS ON TIME?

Yes, that is possible within the Forest Connect App or within the Homey or Fibaro App.

WHAT IS Z-WAVE?

Z-wave is an international wireless language that multiple devices speak. The Forest Shuttle motor is available with a built-in Z-wave receiver. Linking a Z-wave device can easily take place with the push of a button.

I ALREADY HAVE A SOMFY REMOTE CONTROL, CAN I CONTROL THE SYSTEM WITH IT?

Yes that is possible. The Forest system can then be supplied with a Somfy (external) receiver.

IN WHICH COLOURS IS THE MOTORISED TRACK AVAILABLE?

The FMS system is available in white, matt white, black, matt black and grey.

The FMS Plus system is available in white and black.

The FMS Plus recess profile is available in white and black.

CAN A WAVE PLEATED CURTAIN BE APPLIED?

Yes, it is possible to apply a wave confection (ripplefold). Different slider distances are available for this (5.4 cm, 6 cm and 8 cm).

IS IT POSSIBLE TO STUCK THE RAIL INTO THE CEILING?

Yes, Forest has the FMS Plus track with recess profile available for this. First, the recessed profile is mounted and after the stucco work, the rail can be easily mounted using a special wedge.

HOW MANY CURTAIN TRACKS CAN I CONTROL ON ONE REMOTE CONTROL?

The Diamond Sense has the possibility to control up to 15 systems simultaneously or per system via the
integrated timer function or manually. Equipped with Auto-on mode, when the hand is held over the remote control, the integrated LED display automatically. Range of the remote control up to 30 meters.

WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF THE POWER CORD?

By default, the power cord is 4 meters long.
